Across five days, our Marine & Offshore Refrigeration Course includes a mix of theory and practical training, resulting in a City & Guilds Level 2 Awards in F Gas and ODS Regulations: Category I

£1,600.00

Our Marine Refrigeration Course (City & Guilds 2079-11) covers the principles of refrigeration for the marine and offshore industry and is an in-house, 5 day course based at our Somerset, UK and Palma, Spain training centres.

We are a City & Guilds accredited training provider and our bespoke course content is put together using years of hands-on experience. Due to the in-depth nature of our course, our students have an extremely high first-time pass rate of over 95%.

To assist you with your learning experience, you will receive a study pack including our bespoke study guide and access to our mock questions booklet. You are given time to revise the theory material and tinker with our training rigs, with our experienced trainers on-hand to answer any questions.

Our classrooms are limited to small groups to allow each student the best possible chance of success, with a maximum of 8 students per course in Somerset and 6 students per course in Palma.

The first two days look at the theory of thermodynamics, the vapour compression cycle, energy efficiency and the repair process. The next two days are fully practical, and you will be trained on how to repair a system to industry standards. You will complete your theory exam on the final day.

If successful in both the practical and theory exam, you will earn your City & Guilds Level 2 Awards in F Gas and ODS Regulations: Category I. This includes a City & Guilds certificate in both digital and physical format.

Re-sits are available the same day for students who are unsuccessful on their first attempt.

Some of the types of equipment we discuss include:

  • Provisions Refrigeration Systems including multiple evaporator circuits
  • Chilled Water Systems
  • Seawater Cooling Units
  • Air Conditioning Chillers

Friendly staff. Solid knowledge base and relevant industry experience to share. Good facilities.

  2. Joshua Lake

I have recently completed the f-gas course carried out by Tradewinds Engineering. The theory was very interactive which was a big plus compared to PowerPoint based theory. The practical was also well structured, giving plenty time to get familiar with the requirements before sitting the exam. I will be recommending this course to colleagues and other fellow engineers within the maritime sector.

  3. David Bond

Everything was good. A well-informed course with a good instructor. Relaxed and informative.

  4. Chris Clarke

Fantastic course, filled in any holes in my knowledge. Well recommended to anyone in the marine industry.

  5. Adam Hall

The course notes were sent out before the course started. Gave me a good head start. Good communication. The course is very structured providing a good balance of practical and classroom based learning. There is a lot of experience shared not just related to the course but in real life situations.

  9. Dimitry Isakov

Really great course, I feel a lot more comfortable now carrying out maintenance on refrigeration systems and being able to identify a potential cause from various symptoms.

  10. Andrew Miller

The course was a great refresher course for who anyone who wants to get the latest update on Fgas regs and want to learn the best ways to install, monitor and maintain a F gas systems. I also recommend any marine junior engineer should attend the course as it covers a lot of items not covered during cadetship and higher 2/E qualifications. Stuart Ginbey the course instructor was extremely knowledgeable and he freely passed on his knowledge during the course. The rest of the Tradewinds team was also very supportive during the course.

  11. Peter Langan

I am an ETO onboard and have worked mainly with the control side of AC systems. So it was a great experience and challenge to the more hands on activities and practical. Refreshing and expanded my knowledge and understanding. Which will aid me in fault diagnoses in the future. The Tradewind team were very supportive and took the time to help. Would highly recommend this course to anyone in the marine industry. It will bolster your ability and confidence as it has done mine.

  12. Jack O Regan

Great course to cover both the theory and practical. All very useful knowledge/skills for real world scenarios on board a vessel. My only regret is I did not complete it sooner.
