Our Marine Refrigeration Course (City & Guilds 2079-11) covers the principles of refrigeration for the marine and offshore industry and is an in-house, 5 day course covering based at our Somerset, UK and Palma, Spain training centres.
We are a City & Guilds accredited training provider and our course content is put together in-house using years of hands-on experience. Due to the in-depth nature of our course, our students have an extremely high first-time pass rate of over 95%.
To assist you with your learning experience, you will receive a study pack including our bespoke study guide and access to our mock questions booklet. You are given time to revise the theory material and tinker with our training rigs with our experienced trainers on-hand to answer any questions.
Our classrooms are kept small to allow each student the best possible chance of success, with a maximum of 8 students per course in Somerset and 6 students per course in Palma.
The first two days look at the theory of thermodynamics, the vapour compression cycle, energy efficiency and the repair process. The next two days are fully practical, and you will be trained on how to repair a system to industry standards. You will complete your theory exam on the final day.
If successful in both the practical and theory exam, you will earn your City & Guilds Level 2 Awards in F Gas and ODS Regulations: Category I. This includes a City & Guilds certificate in both digital and physical format.
Re-sits are available the same day for students who are unsuccessful on their first attempt.

Samuel Asiedu-Okantah Jnr (store manager) –
The course has been very beneficial, the practicals is carefully crafted to give a firm grasp of the theoretical aspect. I have benefited immensely.
Mateo Jokic (store manager) –
One of the best training that I attended in offshore career. Mr. Stuart has shown huge experience in both HVAC and Oil and Gas sector, which explains his good approach toward students. Complete course is orientated toward Marine and Oil and Gas sector, which means all examples and training content is real and applicable in practice. Course is divided in two parts, theory and practice. Personally I have found both highly useful and Mr. Stuart approach was great while teaching both.
Geambazu Ionut (store manager) –
Brilliant course . Location , teacher one of best . It will help more complex HVAC plants for testing, and more tools . Theory and practical part well explained by teacher.
Yuriy Andrusenko (store manager) –
Course was very good. Got allot of usefully information during theory part and reinforced it during practical exercise. Course teacher provide only usefully information. was very interesting.Great job done.
Ameur Hammouda (store manager) –
This course is useful for me I learned too many things in HVAC practical and technical, good skills of the trainer, I recommended this course to all my HVAC technicians . Thanks for the competent very interested course.
Adrian Bukmanis (store manager) –
While there are plenty of ways to learn the theory, for me the most benefit comes from spending time with people who have been there and done that. Stuart definitely fits in this category and his real-world experience across diverse equipment systems and his willingness to share his experience as part of the course was something of real value. Like many others this was a friends recommendation.
Jarco Hekman (store manager) –
Good course if you want to learn more about refrigeration. It good to learn how to recover fix and fill a system up with refrigerant and actually doing it as well. (practical) I heard about this course from a friend and would recommend it.
Jordan Hodge (store manager) –
Stuart has great knowledge and experience in HVAC and he passes this on in the classroom. You will finish the course with a good understanding of the various refrigeration systems we come across and practical skills that you can use on the job. I have already recommended this course to others.

Great breakdown of Refrigeration systems. I have definitely come away from this course with a greater knowledge of these systems. Would very much highly recommend this course if you are looking to gain a greater understanding of refrigeration systems on board. The practical aspect to the course was fantastic.
Jolyon Brayton, Chief Engineer (store manager) –
I can’t recommend this course enough. Stuart is a most excellent instructor, Stuart is an incredibly knowledgeable on all matters pertaining to the dark art of air Conditioning and refrigeration. he takes great pleasure in making sure you understand the fundaments and practical sides, giving you the confidence to get hands on. For any yacht engineer wishing to advance their understanding of system, this is a must. I know that a lot of yacht based engineers will not want to pay for this course, as It has no credit to the SV or merchant licence, but it is worth every penny (cent). I did the course, as I find it eternally frustrating having to rely on contractors whom say they will do a job, then don’t turn up, or carry a job to poor standards, leaving you with ongoing issues through the season. Upon return to my vessel I purchased the necessary equipment and tools, to carry out our own work, We’ve already covered the cost of the course and tools by not having a service engineer come to the boat.
Marcin Roesler (store manager) –
I feel much more confident with HVAC in term of hands on. Fully recommend to all marine engineers.

I finally understood so many aspects of refrigeration that hadn’t made sense learning on my own. Really great to get hands on experience and practice trouble shooting a system.
Stuart Duff (store manager) –
This course is exactly what I was looking for. Id recommend this course to any marine engineers that have limited hands on experience with AC and fridge systems. My confidence has grown as a result. I now have a much better understanding of the ‘black art’ that is refrigeration. The lecturer Stuart knows his stuff and delivers the course in an easy to learn format.
Sean Hazley (store manager) –
Stuart and Hannah went above and beyond to cater for my skill set. I started the course with little to no practical knowledge and confidence in working on refrigeration systems, but have ended the week feeling I could work safely and comfortably on any system I may come across. Developing skills in fabricating pipework has also been a huge plus for me.
Calum Ross (store manager) –
Having minimal experience working on refrigeration systems, this course gave a higher appreciation for both the practical and theoretical elements. This course will be massively beneficial when I attend college for my COC upgrade. Stu and his team are well experienced in this field and very approachable with any questions that I had.

Course was clear and well set up. For someone who has not had much experience on working with AC units it was extremely helpful and gave me a good fundamental understanding of the practical side of commissioning. Only thing extra I would have liked would have been more problem diagnosis teaching.
Thomas Iversen (store manager) –
Good theoretical and practical course. Good hands on experience in faultfinding, emptying, charging and commissioning plants. Creds to the instructor for giving the students the confidence to try on they’re own.
Vicente Paulino Moto Mangue (store manager) –
I truly loved the conversational speed on the instructors and how he allowed the entire class to participate and not to be embarrassed the content of the course was wide and it help to gain confidence on putting gauges on the refrigerating systems.
Gaspar Ndong Edu Mbang (store manager) –
This course really helps me a lot to understand not only about what is going on in a R-AC system but also to know the principle of the thermodynamic again and how we are getting all the conversions. This course is really helpful.
Timoteo Obiang Moro Obono (store manager) –
I strongly recommend this course for people interested on HVAC systems.
Alejandro Costa Femenia (store manager) –
It has been a great learning experience with a wonderful team of professionals. Really interesting modules, all the way from the theoretical part to the practical side. I feel a much more skilled and confident Engineer, thanks to the knowledge shared.

David Lee (store manager) –
A subject with so much content. It was delivered very well and with a good mix of practical, making the course very enjoyable.
Robert Pomeroy (store manager) –
I found the course very helpful as this subject is not really covered enough when training for yacht engineer licences. Refrigeration is a very important part of the engineering department onboard a modern superyacht. The practical test rigs that are available to use at the classroom are well set up and a great teaching aid.
Chris Powell (store manager) –
This MORC 5 day course was highly beneficial. I have been at sea for 16 years and have been Chief Engineer but have had no formal hands on refrigeration training. The course is well structured and a good mix between theory and practical. I can honestly say that I will be using the training that I have received in my day to day routine and maintenance and feel confident in being able to recover, repair, test and refill a refrigeration/AC system. Highly recommended course for all Chief Engineers!
