Marine Refrigeration 5 Day Course
Across five days at our UK & Palma training centres, our in-depth Marine Refrigeration Course covers the principles of refrigeration for the marine & offshore industry and includes a mix of theory and practical training, resulting in a City & Guilds Level 2 Awards in F Gas and ODS Regulations: Category I
£1,500.00
Our Marine Refrigeration Course (City & Guilds 2079-11) covers the principles of refrigeration for the marine and offshore industry and is an in-house, 5 day course covering based at our Somerset, UK and Palma, Spain training centres.
We are a City & Guilds accredited training provider and our course content is put together in-house using years of hands-on experience. Due to the in-depth nature of our course, our students have an extremely high first-time pass rate of over 95%.
To assist you with your learning experience, you will receive a study pack including our bespoke study guide and access to our mock questions booklet. You are given time to revise the theory material and tinker with our training rigs with our experienced trainers on-hand to answer any questions.
Our classrooms are kept small to allow each student the best possible chance of success, with a maximum of 8 students per course in Somerset and 6 students per course in Palma.
The first two days look at the theory of thermodynamics, the vapour compression cycle, energy efficiency and the repair process. The next two days are fully practical, and you will be trained on how to repair a system to industry standards. You will complete your theory exam on the final day.
If successful in both the practical and theory exam, you will earn your City & Guilds Level 2 Awards in F Gas and ODS Regulations: Category I. This includes a City & Guilds certificate in both digital and physical format.
Re-sits are available the same day for students who are unsuccessful on their first attempt.

Ben Vos –
Great course. The course is one a kind. It’s exactly what we need as marine professionals. On completion of this course you’ll have the knowledge needed to tackle most at sea problems.
Paul Anderson –
Course was very well delivered, gained lots of valuable knowledge and hands on experience with various aspects of maintenance and commissioning.
Nathaniel M –
Well organised and interesting course. Provided good in depth practical knowledge and theory.
Thomas Fowle –
The course was incredible, after 16 years as a yacht engineer the week with Stuart was amazing. It has put a lot of the puzzle pieces into place and refrigeration systems no longer feel as scary. The week in Palma nova cant be faulted. 100% Recommended to everyone. And the crew in the office in the UK are also amazing.
Donovan –
Really enjoyed this course. Really improved my learning and understanding of refridgerantion
Chris Powell –
This MORC 5 day course was highly beneficial. I have been at sea for 16 years and have been Chief Engineer but have had no formal hands on refrigeration training. The course is well structured and a good mix between theory and practical. I can honestly say that I will be using the training that I have received in my day to day routine and maintenance and feel confident in being able to recover, repair, test and refill a refrigeration/AC system. Highly recommended course for all Chief Engineers!
Robert Pomeroy –
I found the course very helpful as this subject is not really covered enough when training for yacht engineer licences. Refrigeration is a very important part of the engineering department onboard a modern superyacht. The practical test rigs that are available to use at the classroom are well set up and a great teaching aid.
David Lee –
A subject with so much content. It was delivered very well and with a good mix of practical, making the course very enjoyable.
GW –
A very worth while course which includes references to the Maritime Industry
Alejandro Costa Femenia –
It has been a great learning experience with a wonderful team of professionals. Really interesting modules, all the way from the theoretical part to the practical side. I feel a much more skilled and confident Engineer, thanks to the knowledge shared.
Timoteo Obiang Moro Obono –
I strongly recommend this course for people interested on HVAC systems.
Gaspar Ndong Edu Mbang –
This course really helps me a lot to understand not only about what is going on in a R-AC system but also to know the principle of the thermodynamic again and how we are getting all the conversions. This course is really helpful.
Vicente Paulino Moto Mangue –
I truly loved the conversational speed on the instructors and how he allowed the entire class to participate and not to be embarrassed the content of the course was wide and it help to gain confidence on putting gauges on the refrigerating systems.
Thomas Iversen –
Good theoretical and practical course. Good hands on experience in faultfinding, emptying, charging and commissioning plants. Creds to the instructor for giving the students the confidence to try on they’re own.
Connor McCann –
Course was clear and well set up. For someone who has not had much experience on working with AC units it was extremely helpful and gave me a good fundamental understanding of the practical side of commissioning. Only thing extra I would have liked would have been more problem diagnosis teaching.
Charles Wattleworth –
A fantastic course which has been written, taught and structured to give a great understanding of Marine Refrigeration and AC systems. I now feel confident on working with these systems onboard yachts. Thank you for a great week.
Lachlan Denneny –
Very informative week. Some great information and tips on maintenance and troubleshooting marine refrigeration systems. The course was extremely helpful for my everyday knowledge of on board systems.
Stuart Phillips –
Fantastic course, amazing what you can learn and the confidence gained in 5 days!
Calum Ross –
Having minimal experience working on refrigeration systems, this course gave a higher appreciation for both the practical and theoretical elements. This course will be massively beneficial when I attend college for my COC upgrade. Stu and his team are well experienced in this field and very approachable with any questions that I had.
Sean Hazley –
Stuart and Hannah went above and beyond to cater for my skill set. I started the course with little to no practical knowledge and confidence in working on refrigeration systems, but have ended the week feeling I could work safely and comfortably on any system I may come across. Developing skills in fabricating pipework has also been a huge plus for me.
Stuart Duff –
This course is exactly what I was looking for. Id recommend this course to any marine engineers that have limited hands on experience with AC and fridge systems. My confidence has grown as a result. I now have a much better understanding of the ‘black art’ that is refrigeration. The lecturer Stuart knows his stuff and delivers the course in an easy to learn format.
Samantha Hubbard. Engineer. Super Yacht Industry –
I finally understood so many aspects of refrigeration that hadn’t made sense learning on my own. Really great to get hands on experience and practice trouble shooting a system.
Jonathan Tailford –
I thoroughly enjoyed the course. Neil was incredibly helpful & patient with any & all questions throughout. I feel much more confident with regards to refrigeration and all associated components; I would highly recommend this course to any & all engineers that deal with refrigeration. Thanks again to Neil & Tradewinds staff, 10/10!
Sean Moynihan –
Very beneficial course to grasp a good understanding of charging and handling refrigerants.
Stephen Delaney –
This was a great course to give me the practical experience i wanted to gain after studying a lot of theory. Chrissie was great in communicating pre-course and the course lecturer Neil was very knowledgeable and informative. Highly recommended course.
